Preorders for the first full-length album released by the group BLACKPINK in four years after its debut next month surpassed 800,000 copies.
According to YG Entertainment, BLACKPINK's first full-length album "THE ALBUM" received a total of 800,000 preorders the previous day.
The figure is the sum of orders from around the world. South Korea's orders surpassed 530,000 copies and recorded more than 270,000 units (based on the tally of U.S. Universal's label interscope) in the U.S. and Europe.
In particular, the first tally, which came less than a week after preorders began on the 28th of last month, is expected to increase the actual amount of orders given the release schedule of the full-length album, which is about a month away.
"BLACKPINK's limited-edition LP for 'The Album' sold out in an instant as soon as preorders began," a YG official said. "The general album is also being produced in addition to orders exceeding the initial volume expected."
As a result, attention is being paid to whether the first full-length album will become a million-seller, as well as the most first-time record ever by a single K-pop girl group.
BLACKPINK has been active before releasing its first full-length album. Starting with the collaboration song "Sour Candy" with Lady Gaga in May, the company released its pre-released title "How You Like That" in June and "Ice Cream" with Selena Gomez in August.
The album's track list has yet to be released. The entire album will be released on October 2. Physical albums will be available at online and offline music stores nationwide on the 6th of the same month.
